Bowling 200 Community - Forums and Videos for bowlers

It's 2009, and I have made a few changes to my gear...and also my attitude this year; "Relax and Roll the ball"

I just got a new spare ball that is drilled with a regular conventional grip...and it (so far) seems to be helping me pick up spares shooting straight. But, the biggest thing that I have seen to help me is for me to take a more relaxed approach to my bowling. No tension...no "grabbing" the ball.

So far - it's working--

Last 3 league nights: 683, 756, and 670. Also, I have come close to shooting 300 twice with this new approach.

I will update this post next week...to see if "relaxing" will continue to help my game..

...till next week -

Chase

Well Thursday Night came, and I bowled ok, but lost money.

They say, "You Strike for show...and you Spare for dough $$$"

Well, I knocked myself out of the brackets tonight by shooting 211 the first game...missing 2 easy spares; a 10 pin and a 7 pin. I got upset with myself because I have really been practicing a little lately...shooting at those 2 spares, along with the 4.

Oh well... I still ended the night with 662, and even made a great split conversion later on.

I have not decided if I will shoot in Saturday's tournament at Red Carpet yet. The more I am keeping records of my bowling expenses ...I have started to feel like I am wasting money that I could be using to go take a quick vacation...and I do need one.

I have actually been shooting pretty well lately, but have not been able to stay focused long enough to "finish the job"...lol

Tuesday night, I shoot 636 on some very dry conditions. Actually the lanes were rotten. School had been out, and the center had been crowded the say. Then on Wed. night, I struggled to shoot 569...not because I wasn't bowling well, but just because I wasn't getting many strikes. I did miss a 4 pin that made me a little upset, but for the most part, I was getting the ball to the "hole" ..but not getting "carry" I have come to accept that sometimes that's just how it is...

Hopefully Thursday Night will go better. I am thinking I may need to get away from bowling for a second though. I lately have just not had the enthusiasm. Maybe I need a vacation.

Had an interesting day at the Suburban Doubles tournament on Saturday. I bowled the 2pm set, and did alibis with 2 people that shot well over 700, and I only shoot about 600...sheeesh. And I was actually bowling well, but could not carry.

Then, I decide to try again at the 4pm squad, and shoot a good 685 + 33 hdcp to finish with 718...but none of my alibi partners bowled anything in this set...LOL. Crazy game this bowling.

I can't wait until I finally shoot an 800 series...and also place in a scratch tournament...then I can take up something new like skydiving or golf... :)

I think tonight was one of those nights that no matter what... "it just wasn't to be" ...lol. I shot a great 592. I did miss a ten pin, and chopped the bucket too. But, overall, I was really rolling the ball great...and hitting the pocket, but I just wasn't getting rewarded. Lots and lots...and LOTS of 10 pins, 4s, 7s, and even a stone 8 ...LOL. Crazy, crazy night...but my team won 3, so it all worked out.

I hope that Thursday will be better.

Well, I decided to do the realbowlers sweeper this Sunday. I bowled good enough to cash in 5 brackets…and winning 3. I also got a chance to use a new ball I just got from Bowlers Express Pro Shop… Lane 1 Buzz Bomb Pearl. So far I have shot 4 games with it…and have bowled 263 (Sat. at Suburban), today: 236, 234, and 225.

This ball is a MONSTER when it comes to backend and smashing the pocket...serious!!! The ball weight is a little heavy (a heavy 15)…but the finger and thumb “feel” is great. Johnny Jackson spent a lot of time on the thumb fit since my other balls use the turbo switch grip. He did a great job.

I plan on trying out in league, and will see how it does this coming week.

Thursday, Feb 5, 2009--

I got my "Mojo" back tonight, and shot 30 clean frames to finish with 697 tonight. I also won in the brackets and "cut the field". I was finally able to use the "new" Complete NV ball now that Dannial Cohen re-did the surface to 2000 with NO polish. The ball matched up great with the lanes tonight...and I was rolling the ball pretty well.

I stayed relaxed ...but also aggressive - if that makes sense. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but I found out that I shoot well when my backswing is more relaxed...

Until the weekend.... later

Thanks brother. you bowled good 2. I think we all lost our look after the 2nd game, I think it was that urethane ball going down 5 that changed the look. Anyway I really like how that Storm ball rolls for you I might have to get me one man. Chase when are you practicing again, maybe we can get together and practice some?

Hey ChaseMan, whatup cuz? Listen You know I throw Ebonite, But for me and my game the CNV was not working. It didn't fit my game, It didn't roll well for me. It wouldn't get the same reaction ball after ball. I have the new One Pearl, and that ball is SWEAT my man. Last night I shot a 758 with it again. The first time I used it in league in PinStrikes I shot a 733. It rolls up great it has great backend reaction, with the length. I agree with Dannial, we all need to practice more, but also we need to stop thinking about it 2much, I mean thinking about the Shot. Let everything be SMOOTH. NO jerking just Relax and let the ball roll out of your hands. Perfect example is Greg, and Dannial. Work the inside of the ball, when it clears your plant ankle that when the work suppose to be done man, remember hand and forearm with your target, Nice and easy. You have an awesome game, just more practice. When I grow up I want to be like you man 4real....You bowl great man......

This will be the last segment of this blog...until I get my main ball back. I shot 533 tonight..the worse I have shot in over a year. I tried my best to use this "new" Complete NV, but I guess I don't know "how" to use the ball. I had ONLY 6 strikes for 3 games..which is what I usually get in 1 game. I was either light in the pocket, or "flush" leaving 10 pins. And when I made adjustments...I would leave 4 pins.

I will just wait until I get my old ball back...and throw something else for a while. I am actually thinking of pulling out my original NV and using it..or trying a new manufacturer. I have never tried any Hammer, Brunswick, Rotogrip, or Storm performance balls...so maybe its time to try something "new".
