I was there last night as an observer. Yea I saw how challenging the shot was for some while others had a ball. But what the shot did from what I seen was keep everyone in the game. Of course there were those who scored because well, that's just w...
I actually like that its 8 folks on a pair.. it lets the lanes transition and the shot will go from catering to people that play a lil straighter to people that like to hook it a little...so people will have to adjust.. I think that if there were ...
Yea I wanted to do that also, but the nights were conflicting. But to say the least is that it's a scratch league, which in turn will also help me step up my game. With these headbussa's in this league, and the "OldHeads" who will try to talk you ...
Yeah great league. Wish we could bowl with just two teams on one pair. Or, since we have 4 teams to a pair, it should have been set up to where if you beat every team on the pair u get rewarded or points for where u place per game or bowl a differ...
Hey Darwin...man, you should have bowled. I believe that you would have done GREAT! I actually was in position to make it to the top 10 & Match Play (serious). I fell apart, but NOT because of the shot. ..started missing spares man. I was actually 2nd goinginto game 3 of the semifinals...LOL
Anyway, to answer your question;
Most of the people I ask advice about certain things are ONLY people that I have been watching them do some excellent adjusting or whatever...Or as in Lonnie Hill's case, watching Him TEACH others who have become great bowlers how to do something. Lonie and Henrietta Hill have helped Tyrone Stevens, Jack Jackson, LaTonya Walker, etc, etc... and those bowlers all started out like me...around a 155 or 160 average...and then excelled pretty fast.
As far as my approach - man, I just ask. And I also sometimes offer to pay ...or at least pay for their games when they are bowling, etc. But not one time has anyone taken any money for helping me... outside of when I was paying for a Bowling Clinic with Chuck Gardner & Lessons from Dannial Cohen.
Of course, I don't ask advice from just anybody...and I always have to keep in mind that just because "they can do something" a certain way... doesn't mean that they can actually teach you to do it. And, i have found out that there are guys with the knowledge...but not the skills to execute in competition.
Like Greg for instance.
Greg showed me something that I use for spare making... but, because I don't slide, and because my muscle memory has not "got-it" down to be natural yet... I have trouble executing a very simple thing that has to do with my body alignment and speed. I can do it most times... but not always like he can. I mean, hey he's got 18 yrs of practice doing it...vs my 3 weeks of trying it...LOL
So, pick the right moment(s) with other great bowlers..and one day when you are out practicing - ask somebody that you feel has some helpful knowledge to share to help YOU.
Another thing - Isom once told me that, "Chase, if you REALLY want to be better, and you have the cash... then just get a REAL coach to help you" ... see below:
