Bowling 200 Community - Forums and Videos for bowlers

Here's a good question.

What’s harder to bowl on for you…as far as an oil or lane condition; “Heavy, long oil, with an Out-of-bounds” …or… “Shorter Oil, and dry”?

And let’s say - you have to bowl at least 2 sets of 3 games on the condition you pick...along with 3 others on your pair.

So - which is harder for you…and why?

Well me personally I would say the long oil with out of bounds. It really depends on my equipment though.

That's easy, heavy long oil. Because no matter how much oil they will open up. I like heavy oil because I just have to worry about backend instead of getting down the lane and the ball dying out.

short oil low ball speed getting old

If I had to pick one that was harder guess it would be... Shorter oil and dry. Then again if it really is dry then ummmm errrr it can't be short oil or otherwise :)

At 72 and bads knees, the dry lanes are harder on me....I love the heavy, long oil, with an out of bounds conditions. I use less energy on oily lanes.

Me personally I like playing up the outside so I prefer short patterns.

I think the shorter oil & dry lanes are harder than the heavy , long oil. With the heavy, long oil i have a chance to find equilibrium especially with others on the lane because the oil will eventually redistribute.

I have definitely come to the conclusion that dry is more of a challenge (for now). When the lanes are dryer, it takes me a whole lot more energy to get the ball down the lane...which is ok for a little while, but after a game or so...it becomes a real challenge.
