Bowling 200 Community - Forums and Videos for bowlers

After going to 3 different Bowling Ball events - (2) “Ebonite Demo Days” & a “Storm Open House Event” this year… I must say..."this is a great way to try new bowling equipment before you make a decision to buy a new ball."

But, there are a few things that I personally believe that could be better for the bowlers in this experience.

First of all, I should say that 2 of the events I went to were sponsored via Ebonite for the Hammer, Ebonite, Columbia, and Track line of balls. And the other event was a Storm/Roto-grip event.

Now – here’s the deal:

Just my opinion, but I honestly can say that Storm actually has my “5-star thumbs up” to “how” they deal with:

1.fitting balls for the bowlers using the Turbo - Thumb Switch Grip system (thank you)
2. having different weights to try (14 and 15)
3. and maybe the biggest thing that I was impressed with… actual information on each ball, along with a display of each ball…along with a “visual” of the ball cut in half to see the cover/weight block, etc.
4. More people on the lanes to assist you with trying different balls, fitting, suggestions, information, help, etc

Storm/Roto-grip has basically took the Ebonite Demo Day idea…then “tweaked it” to be a little better than the Ebonite program. (And trust me – this is hard for me to say… especially because I have been an Ebonite-person for quite a while…and I also like Ebonite’s staff, and pro shop support.

One thing though - The Ebonite staff was excellent as always.

Anyway – overall, I enjoyed both Companies efforts…and believe that ALL bowlers should experience this type of “try it before you buy it” bowling event. Just take (make) the time to go the next time you hear about it.

Oh yeah, another thing; I really wish that they would take the time to make sure the lanes get re-oiled (or something) every 2 squads…or at least reserve lanes for the later squads.

I was honestly ready to buy a ball at one of the events…. but because the lanes were so dry when I tried out the balls…I was reluctant to go ahead and make ANY purchase….simply because I could not get a true “read” of what the ball was doing…or supposed to be doing.

It’s sort of like this - hey – I cant tell if my brand new snow tires work “right” on snow - if I am only allowed to do the test-driving over a hot dry road …

...just my opinion... :-)

Ok everyone – take care
Have a great week!

Chase... I've been to several of these over the years, and they are a GREAT way to learn about new balls. I had some of the same concerns about oil depletion on the lanes, or how much oil was out there to start with, but figured the best way to compare reactions was take a couple of my own "benchmark" balls and compare them side by side with the new stuff. That way you have a true comparison to form an opinion as to the new ball reaction characteristics, and whether or not it's one that might find a spot in your bag.
