Well…. Friday night kicked off the 1st night of the new Forest Park League. This is a brand new league that is not using the “typical house shot” It was kinda funny when they announced after the 1st game that “cut the field” was 181…LOL
…and I’m like 181? Now, that’s funny.
Anyway – before I left the center, I heard that one of the teams withdrew from this league. Is this true…and why? I have heard some rumors that some complained that “the shot was too hard”… but I really don’t believe that is the reason the team withdrew. If anybody else heard anything… please let me know. Someone asked me tonight if there were any spots available in the league.
If a whole team dropped out because of the shot that would be just plain sad. Hope that is not the excuse. You would think that they would have some self respect to stick it out for 30+ weeks.
Is this a sport league or non section league? Reason I ask is I have seen where you have to state that your avg from a league is on a sport shot or "tough shot" for handicapping reasons lol
I was there last night as an observer. Yea I saw how challenging the shot was for some while others had a ball. But what the shot did from what I seen was keep everyone in the game. Of course there were those who scored because well, that's just what they do, but for the most part, I saw teams that I wouldn't have given a chance actually pull out some games. Now I don't know if It was actually because of the shot, but when I saw some people bowling, it seems that they were culture shocked!! It was somewhat funny to think that for exp; If you only bowl at Metro Lanes where the green pastures and flower gardens were layed out, Forest park looked like the Dragons den full of fire.... LOL!! Culture Shock...
It is definitely not the THS that used to be put out there, and I expected that it would surprise some people. I had heard it was going to be a tougher shot, a modified sport-pattern, and it is going to take some time to learn. I'm not the great shotmaker that some of these bowlers are... I shot 203,164,158... and it still surprised me even though I had bowled on it during the doubles tournament. The drawback is that when the shot does start to change, you might have to make a BIG and QUICK change that might not be your usual adjustment when a THS breaks down, and you had better be committed to that adjustment. I suspect that the "true bowlers" will welcome the challenge, and eventually figure out how to score. However, for some of us hard-headed older folks, it may take a little longer than usual, testing the outer limits of our comfort-zones.
I was in Forest Park Last night as an observer. The shot appeared challenging but achievable for the dedicated bowler. I wish that I didn't have to work on alternate fridays because I wouldn't mind giving it a shot. I don't believe the shot would be reason enough to quit, I believe the shot challenges ones ability to bowl but in the long run would help to better ones accuracy on the lanes.
"you might have to make a BIG and QUICK change that might not be your usual adjustment"
yes...yes...and that's a BIG YES!!!! That is what I see the most about this. You really have to be prepared to make a "different" type of progression as far as moves. I shot 638...and that was with 2 missed spares... so the shot is playable. One thing I noticed for sure...it's a lot of "feast or famine"...meaning either you would strike or split....
I am bowling as a sub on Friday nights. It is definetly not your typical house shot. It was a challenge! For a person such as myself who does not throw a lot of strikes, it will help me to be more accurate on my first ball and help me become a better spare shooter. Personally I like the shot because it is something good to bowl on if you want to become a better bowler (which is what I'm striving for).
