I have been watching the taped telecast of the new PBA TV Shows…and noticed something that I know some of you have noticed -- MUSIC being played in between a players shots.
Isn’t this new PBA “Jam-to-the-music-in-between-the bowler’s shot” thing a little impractical for a professional competition? I know for me… it seems a bit much.
I know that many recreational league bowlers use headphones and iPods to listen to music…but, I can’t imagine having to bowl on TV, or even in a tournament competition setting -- where some DJ keeps playing “Turn My Swagg On” or some other Club-Dance Music snip in between my shots…LOL.
I bowl with one ear phone attached to my i-pod. For me it is a timing issue and it beats the house music. I'm not sure the professional bowlers have been notified of the musical interludes between their shots. While looking at the pros bowl I really don't pay attention to the between shot interludes.
I think the pros better get use to it. I notice it too. Bowling is trying to get younger bowlers intered in the telecast. The bowling theatrics is designed to put some interst in the sport. The colorful shirts, the trash talking, interaction with the crowd almost like the WWE wrestling...LOL
Itis a sign if the times. The kids I coach wear headsets when they bowl. I cant do it, but I guess the music on the juke box is no different. Just because they are pros, they no what to expect in the bowling center. Bowling was too much like golf with the silence. That is not bowling. We are use to loud voices and laughter, cussing, babies crying and loud music.

Yeah, i think you are right. It was kind of funny today watching the Viper Championship...and the bowler Ciminelli was about to bowl...and the music was still playing...and you could see the irritation in his face. But, yeah...like you say, they probably have to get use to it.
See, I had an idea about a new Big Money tournament format...where the center is dark like the "glow bowling", where music is played, laser lights, a "hype" announcer, etc...like the WWE but for bowling...but when I brought it up to some friends, they looked at me like I was crazy. But maybe I was just ahead of whats to come...LOL
Now, ironically you stated Ciminelli was irrated by the music still playing. Is he trying to concentrate on his execution and making a good shot? Now you have blaring music to deal with, not to mention the lane condition or better yet, his competitors.
Bowling is turning into a joke. All for the sake of drawing crowds?! Do you see Norm Duke, Wes Mallot, Chris Barnes Or ANY OF THE PROFESSIONAL BOWLERS wearing ipods or listening to music while they bowl? OF COURSE NOT. THEY ARE "FOCUSING" MENTALLY ON WHAT HAS TO BE DONE. They don't need music to keep their timing together, you either have practiced enough times and sorted it out, or you haven't.
This is part of the reason bowling gets a bad rap as it is "not" considered a sport. The consenus is that anyone can do it, and now we've added insult to injury when we're wearing ipods and playing music to "calm" our nerves or to "fix" issues. Imagine Tiger Woods at the Masters wearing an Ipod getting ready to swing his club for five to six figure money?! C'mon folks, stop already.
Bowlers will never make that kind of money at a tournament because it's not taken seriously. Now we're allowing tomorrows bowlers to wear headsets while they bowl? Who's allowing this, and why? Are you training to be a better bowler or bowling just for the fun of it? Which tournament are they going to bowl that will allow this? What happens when they tell you you CAN'T wear your headphones, then what?
If bowling was so easy, why are there many people that go almost their whole lives bowling and never shoot any honor scores? Even when the lanes are "tailor-made" for scoring, there is still no guarantee, that one one can pull it off. There has to be "some" seriousness involved.
Yet, again it boils down to what type of bowler you wish to be. Competitive or recreational. Only the individual bowling can answer that, I suppose........
Yeah... it really does boil down to the individual. I know certain music relaxes ...and certain music will excite and energize someone too. But, when I saw the telecast this past Sunday... the music snips kept coming on in the 1st match, and it just seemed like it didn't belong for that type of event.
there you go!!! that's perfect. NOW, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO, IS BUILD A CAGE AROUND A PAIR OF LANES, AND HAVE BOWLERS JUMPING OFF OF LADDERS AND THROWING BOWLING BALLS AT THE SAME TIME???!!
Yeah could have slogans like "Drop da hamma on em!" (said in the voice of Hulk Hogan) After all look at some of the ball names out. They could easily bring raslin names.
