Looking aroind in league tonight, watching the different lines people were playing, and from my own practice saw you could swing it anywhere and it came back. I wondered is it sandbagging if you refuse to play the easy swing line and play a tighter line?
It depends on intent. If they were playing a bad line just to keep average down then it's bagging. If they can't play the shot that will work then they ain't bagging. If they see too many people are playing that shot and think it won't be there long then it's not bagging.
I'll agree with you there Wayne. I don't get the point of practicing on a different line during a leage that you pay $20/wk in. I beleive you should try your best no matter what the conditions are. I could have kept my average down at about 185 with moving to parts on the lane that were unplayable to the condition during leage then go to tournments and shoot 680+ and make a killing. It's one thing to know you're playing the wrong part of the lane and do it to keep your average down and it's another thing to not have a clue on where to play. As I see it most patterns here in the south are set up about the same during most leages and they don't change too much. I wonder what the people who deliberately keep their averages down would do if Isom and Greg and some of these guys started to average around 175-185 because they wanted to practice a new line during leage play?????
I don't know if it would really matter in terns of actually winning goes. I mean with or without handicap... Isom, Greg, Charles...and a few more usually bowl on teams that finish near or at the top of EVERY league they bowl in. They would beat you scratch.... and if they had pins, then they would just beat you even more w/ handicap…simple as that.
As far as practicing during league goes; you are absolutely right when you say you should “try your best....” 100% agree.
But, there are many, MANY bowlers who are at a "growing" stage of bowling (not bowling for 10 or 15 yrs) who are still learning, and attempting to apply what they are practicing...whether it be: Balancing at the line, Learning to play at the arrows or dots...and not just an area... or simply learning how to bowl when you CAN'T just roll the ball down "10". I believe everyone wants to win...and nobody wants to lose.
What's up chase. I haven't quit yet. I'm bowling with charles waller in ol/new skool dbls league. Not really jumping in this discussion today. It is what it is. Maybe i should avg 180 and get pins. That would be something new. Ahaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
