Does it send a negative message that Barack Obama plans to remove the bowling lanes in the White House and replace them with a basketball court? Our sport already has issues (badminton instead of bowling in the olympics?).
I think his plans to play pickup games with MJ, Magic and Larry Bird will end up with a lot of sore muscles and injuries!
I was a little surprised when I heard about this. I wonder why they actually have to take the bowling lanes out. I wonder why they couldn't just have a basketball court added or built on the grounds?
I have a feeling that they don't get used much anymore. I like the idea to be honest with you. Some pictures of MJ posterizing Obama would be hilarious...or better yet Obama draining a fadeaway in MJ's face.
I really wonder if he has thought that through. I think if he were better at it, he would enjoy it more. I am really surprised when he made the comment that the USBC was not all over this, to encourage him to keep the bowling alley. Maybe Chris Paul will make a move to contact him, since he is a professional basket ball player and the spokesperson for USBC. Show President Obama he can have the best of both worlds. Besides look at his cabinet, do you really see him in a pick up game with ANY of them.
Good point Maria, I'd like to see Chris Paul convince him to keep the lanes, get better at bowling and put to hoops elsewhere!
Obama could give bowling a publicity boost and keep is jumper sharp!
From what I understand the lanes are distroyed and in terrible shape. No one has used them since 2001. Room gets used for storage and stuff. They would have to completly install new lanes as they are in that bad of shape. Also the bowling industry has made an offer to Obama to teach him to bowl. http://www.bowl.com/articleView.aspx?i=15096&f=1 . Article is dated Dec. 17 .
Last I heard of it is that they were going to bring in some portable goals for the tennis court and in the winter, it was a gym space or something. We all must remember that basketball is one of the easiest sports as far as playing where it just requires a somewhat round ball and something to be a hoop (ie. Monkey bars, milk crate, rim). Before I started bowling, and fell in love, it couldn't touch basketball
