I think this is a good idea.I would rotate it to different centers so its not happening at the same place.Sometimes guys get sick of bowling at the same place and it dies off.We have seen this before.I would suggest doing it on sunday afternoon after church(2pm).Because the economy is struggling alot of people are picking up 2nd jobs on saturday.Just an opinion like the old saying goes everybody has one.
I have a tentative date for Saturday,October 25th at Metro Lanes and Games. There were a lot of things going on this month. I would love for these to be at different houses. We (realbowlers.com) have always gone from house to house with our tournaments. If you know of any other houses that would be interested let me know. Also, Saturday or Sunday whatever does not matter to me. Would need everyones support to make it worth the time.
You know... this sounds like a great idea, but after observing and even participating in some of the last tournaments... I wonder if people will show up.
Some of the same people, who say they want this, are many of the same that I don’t see at the events. So, from one business man to another... Theo, take your time on making any decisions about this.
I for one would love it...!!!
But I truly believe that money is very, very tight for most (and myself included). I “think” everyone wants to bowl – and would love this Scratch Sweeper, but if it's a decision to bowl or pay a bill... well... the bills gotta get paid.
My thing is… “why do all of these scratch guys complain about nowhere to bowl in scratch tournaments?” When people like you or Rob & Darrell have them… no one comes out.
By the way - I looked at my league sheets from the 3 leagues that I bowl in - and I counted at least 60+ local Atlanta 200+ bowlers... that did a "no-show".
Maybe Realbowlers & Oneball-no Rack should comprise a list of these guys... and actually give them a special formal "Invitation Only" letter for new scratch tournaments...including there name, and a letter...
Dear John Do,
"Because of your great bowling achievements by ranking as a 200+ bowlers in the greater Atlanta area, we are honored to invite you to "The 2009 Winter Scratch Sweeper Tournaments .......etc.
Please bring this letter to receive 1 free bracket entry and $5 off the tournament entry fee, etc, etc...etc.
another suggestion. this is just my feeling on this, i don't expect everyone to agree. doubles is a little iffy around here. not to say it doesn't or it won't happen. i've come to realize certain people won't bowl with other people if their chances of winning aren't great. forget good, it better be great. then they are people that feel certain people can't bowl good enough. no one plans to lose or get beat, but we are all human and we do have off days. one person will be on, and the other may not be. doubles is always fun, but singles leaves the driving in your own hands....... run a singles/doubles event at the same time. the people pair up as doubles and can enter a separate singles event also. prize fund based off the number of singles that actually want to participate. just an idea.....
